Maker Series – Introduction to Wearables: Workshop with Sara Chipps

Join developer and Jewlbots founder Sara Chipps for an introduction to one of tech’s top trends: wearable devices that integrate fascinating and functional features into daily fashion. No prior experience needed! Get the essentials as she shares her process; then put your learning into action with a fun project using LED lights.

You will use light code to program a custom blinking pattern into a string of LED lights with an Arduino Gemma, and sew the lights into your clothing or a favorite accessory. This class is great place to start for anyone curious about coding.

Not only will you have a chance to get your hands dirty, you’ll also have an opportunity to talk to Sara about what it’s been like to run a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, founda technology startup, and begin a movement designed to encourage the inner-nerd in young girls.

Each in-person attendee will receive a hardware kit they will use to create their own wearable during the workshop. Live stream attendees are encouraged to purchase the same kit and follow along online.

The Build Right: Maker Series brings relevant voices to the forefront through down-to-earth conversations about real-life experience along with “anything-goes” interactions. At each full-day workshop (10am – 5pm EST), you’ll have an opportunity to spend the day learning from an industry leader—and enjoy a lunch and happy hour together.
