Mural Talk: Celebrating the Arts in the Queen City

The arts have continued to play a large role in the city of Cincinnati. From amazing performances, galleries & museums, to mural work and incredible experiences like BLINK – our city has a lot to offer for all of us to enjoy. During this engaging panel discussion you’ll hear from some amazing folks who help to bring ideas to life all in the support of the arts. You’ll learn about the history of the arts in Cincinnati, gain insight to the incredible mural work displayed across our city, and get the inside scoop on exciting things to come for this year’s BLINK festival. About the Panelists

Jonathan Buening is Director of the Community Campaign at ArtsWave, the nation’s oldest and largest united arts fund, and the Cincinnati region’s primary source of funding and connection for local arts institutions. In this role, Jon works closely with ArtsWave’s corporate and community partners to engage people with the arts and drive funding for Cincinnati’s amazing arts organizations. He also serves as the staff lead for ArtsWave Young Professionals, working with a volunteer committee to connect local YPs with ArtsWave and execute unique events that provide an inside look at local arts programming.

Jon’s arts and community involvement outside of ArtsWave includes being a 2021 Class 16 graduate of the Cincinnati Chamber's C-Change program, serving as Connections Coordinator and a member singer for the Young Professionals Choral Collective, and sitting on the advisory council for Cincinnati Boychoir. Andrew Salzbrun is co-founder and managing partner of AGAR, an experiential company founded on the premise that as the world grows more and more digital the value of a human connection and experience inherently increases. AGAR leverages experiential design, communications, event production and technology to reach audiences and grow culture for companies, brands and the communities they serve. With their fingers on the pulse of cultural relevance, Salzbrun and his team facilitate connection, drive action and create impact for their Fortune 500 clients around the globe as well as AGAR’s headquarter city, Cincinnati.

Most notably, Salzbrun, together with his strategic and creative partners, co-founded BLINK, a four-night, city-wide, art event that historically draws more than two million artists and visitors from around the globe. This award-winning biannual event helped propel Salzbrun's work within the arts community to new heights. Over the last 5 years, Andrew has curated and commissioned more than 40 murals and art installations by international artists. By leveraging world-class public art supported through entrepreneurial ventures, these placemaking strategies and experiences have helped transform neighborhoods and create positive change.

Sydney Fine. As Senior Director of Impact, Sydney leads the strategic direction, management, and evaluation of ArtWorks’ programming and project impact. Sydney has dedicated her career to improving opportunities and outcomes for youth and communities. Prior to joining ArtWorks, Sydney was a Teach for America corps member in Milwaukee, WI. Her experience in the classroom led her to Future 5, a youth development nonprofit organization in Stamford, CT, where she led fundraising as Development Manager. A life-long learner of dance, music, and the arts, it was a natural fit for Sydney to join the ArtWorks in 2018 team to combine her passions for meaningful educational opportunities and the arts. Sydney received her BA from the University of Michigan, where she double-majored in Anthropology and Film, Television, & Media and holds an MA in Education from Alverno College.
