GBBN flipped the design process on its head in designing the Parallax Pavilion, a temporary installation at the heart of their fourth annual Design Issues Series (DIS) exhibit.
Inspired by the 20th century Surrealist parlor game, Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse), the collective goal was to design and fabricate a structure that celebrates and manipulates perception. Five creative teams from across GBBN’s three U.S. offices contributed to different phases of the project—each team blind to what would be passed to them. Upending the customary design process was revealing, transforming, and yes, sometimes aggravating! Learn what worked and what flopped as we dissect the journey to the Parallax Pavilion.
Lunch will be provided.
About DIS: GBBN’s Design Issues Series (DIS) is a yearly, inter-office exhibit that digs into a different issue—like digital tools, prefabrication, and common space—to deepen the community’s connection to design.
About GBBN: GBBN works with visionaries to enhance experience and empower people. We combine creative tenacity, technical mastery, and a global perspective to deliver design solutions that help our clients achieve their goals. Together, we inspire employees to do their best work, connect, and collaborate. We shorten the distance between medical breakthroughs and patient bedsides, set students up for success, and connect audiences and artists. At GBBN, we see architecture as more than just buildings, because positively impacting people is the most important thing we do.
