Spreading Holiday Cheer & Doing Good for Others

During the month of December, we decided to do a little something different for our monthly Liquid Courage event. Following our October event, where we held a pumpkin painting competition, we received a lot of amazing feedback that our AIGA members & friends loved the idea of doing something active. We decided to keep the momentum going and go for another hands on competition but with a little something special.

Let’s back up for second and explain to you what EXACTLY AIGA Cincinnati Liquid Courage is. Liquid Courage is a networking event that doubles as a happy hour. They usually take place on the third Thursday of every month (scheduling of other AIGA events, permitting). During these happy hours, which lasts longer than one hour, we are able to bring creatives in the Cincinnati area together for good conversation, job leads, inspiration, and a lot of laughs. The true beauty of this monthly happy hour(s) is that it is no pressure, laid back, and has had a history of creating some amazing connections within the industry. Below is a small taste of some of these events.

That being said, lets get back to December! In the light of spreading good cheer for others, we thought what better way to do that than to bring these creatives together to do what they do best—create. Our plan for the December Liquid Courage was to find a place with a lot of space and invite creatives to make Christmas cards that would eventually go to the families of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

We had three large tables reserved at Rhinegeist that quickly became filled up an hour and half in with a crowd of more than 50 creatives. It was a blast. We had beautiful card stock paper and envelopes available along with good ink pens, colored pencils, water color, and other assorted supplies. To our surprise and delight, not only did our members and new faces show up, but families came with their kids as well. It was a very special thing to see kids jump in to do a little good.

Our goal was to have a card made for each of the 53 families at NICU at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. At the end of this amazing three-hour event full of good beer, good people, and beautiful designs, we had 87 cards made which meant we could give out these cards to not only the families at NICU but the very well deserving nurses and staff as well.

It was an amazing evening and we appreciate all the support of the AIGA Cincinnati community who jumped in to help. We met a lot of new faces that night that we hope we will be seeing again soon.

A big shout out and high five to Hyperquake for supporting this spreading of holiday cheer. Since these kind of events are usually free to attend, we needed a little help in the sponsorship department to help us buy the supplies needed to make this happen.

About Hyperquake: Hyperquake is an incredible branding agency located in the heart of Cincinnati, that focuses on creating amazing brand strategy, brand identity, product innovation, immersive installations, and digital experiences for their lucky clients. And as it turns out, they are pretty good at card-creating as well.
